{February 11, 2011}   Laura Gesualdi’s First Tattoo

Laura's tattoo.

What do you do immediately after you turn 18, you really want a tattoo, and your parents do not like them? If you are anything like Laura Gesualdi, you get a tattoo anyway.

Laura, a senior journalism major at Rowan University, has a small tattoo of a dove on her ankle. “I chose a dove as my first tattoo because I wanted something that symbolizes peace and freedom and a peace sign is not original at all,” Laura said.

After walking around Philly with friends to look at different tattoo parlors, Laura got the artwork done at No Ka Oi Tiki Tattoo because she had heard they were good, saw that the shop was clean, liked the atmosphere, and was confident the artists at No Ka Oi knew what they were doing. Laura said, “They were really nice and answered any question I had. I would recommend them to anyone getting their first tattoo.”

Laura plans on getting another tattoo. For her second tattoo, Laura wants to get three stars on each side of her rib cage. On one side, she will get the green, white, and red of the Italian flag because her dad is Italian. Her mom’s side of the family is Irish, so the orange, white, and green of the Irish flag will be on the other side of her ribcage.

Laura said, “It’s a good feeling knowing you’re getting a tattoo. You know you’ve found something you’re going to want for the rest of your life that makes your body unique from everyone else.”
